Kaya recently traveled to the Green Mountains in Southern Vermont, which are located on the ancestral homeland of the Abenaki peoples. Edit: 01/08/24: I have learned more about how the Odanak First Nation and Wôlinak First Nation (federally recognized Abenaki nations in Canada) have notable concerns about the legitimacy of Vermont’s state-recognized Abenaki tribes. Here is an important series from Vermont Public Radio on this issue. (H/T to u/TigritsaPisitsa on r/AmericanGirl for the info).

After enjoying the view of the snowy landscape, Kaya bundles up to go for a sunrise walk. She comes across a partially frozen stream as well as some interesting tracks.
After a rejuvenating (but chilly) walk, Kaya warms up by the fireplace with her doll.
